    Importance of Teaching Girls Self-Defense

Self-defense is NOT just for boys Everyone deserves to learn how to defend themselves. Self-protection is needed by girls as well as boys. Many people think that girls are fragile and can’t effectively learn to defend themselves. Often times the opposite is true. Girls are tougher mentally and physically than we give them credit for. Girls are at risk of violence equal to, if not more, than boys. Do you have any idea how many physical and sexual assaults are perpetrated against females in the country happen each year? Who would NOT want their daughter, sister, or wife to learn the basic skills necessary to protect themselves?

  • New Training Tip

Here is our Thursday Training Tip of the Week. Understanding how, when, and why do we Bow at Texas Storm Kenpo. Let me start by saying that if you do not have experience in martial arts it might be easy to misunderstand the purpose of a bow as used in our studio and this training tip will hopefully clear up and misunderstanding. In order to do a proper bow a student is to stand at attention and perform a slight lowering of their head and chest. This is not a large or deep motion. Students are required to bow when entering or leaving the school (at the front door) and when the ....

We Will Speak to Your Child's Class

Like what you hear during our mat chats? We teach and reinforce important life skills lessons. We like doing school talks and would love to come and speak to your child’s class. We have several topics that we can speak on at schools. Simply reach out to the teacher and let them know that we offer interesting class chats and suggest a topic from the list. Ask the teacher if it would be okay for your child’s martial arts instructors to send them info through email. If the teacher responds positively, send us the name, email, school, and what grade that the teacher teaches and we will handle the rest. At the end of each month, parents who help us complete a class ....

  • The Power of Consistency

It’s time again for Straight Talk with Bill. Today we’ll be talking about “The Power of Consistency”. How are you? Hi. I am Bill with Texas Storm Kenpo, here in sunny Fort Worth Texas. Again, we are talking about the POWER of Consistency. Consistency basically means performing certain behaviors on a regular basis without wavering. To quote the site Mission.com,” If you can learn to do something consistently, you’ll tap into a much greater superpower than the habit itself: the belief that you’re completely capable of changing your behavior.” You see, that is part of the “power”. Gaining the ....

    Walk away from worries
"The rhythm and repetition of walking has a tranquilizing effect on your brain, and it decreases anxiety and improves sleep," says nutrition and wellness expert Ann Kulze, MD. Aim for a brisk, half-hour walk every day. Do less, enjoy more
"We go overboard to please others during the holidays: shopping, cooking, sending cards, and attending every event," says George Pratt, PhD , a psychologist at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla in California.
